Why do fathers out of wedlock have to fight for their rights to their kids?

Just because the mother dislikes the father? I don't find this very fair AT ALL. & why do the courts 98% of the time choose the mother's side? Absolutely ridiculous. Fathers shouldn't be deprived of their rights to their kids just because their mother is holding a grudge.
