Root canal? what to expect?

I have to get a root canal soon, and i'm freaking out about it! What should I expect to happen? How long will it take? I know they have to put this rubber dam thing over my mouth...but how will I breathe? My nose gets really stuffy, especially when I lay down, so I don't think I'll be able to breathe well. Thanks for your help!
